Privacy policy

CityWar.lol has no accounts and no login, so there is very little to collect. This page lists all of it: what you type, what is published because you typed it, what Razorpay handles instead of us, and the single thing kept in your browser.

How this site works

Written for launch by the team that built the site, and accurate to the code as it stands. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and does not attempt to map itself onto the GDPR, the DPDP Act, the CCPA or any other specific regime. Have a qualified lawyer review it before relying on it, particularly if you are taking payments from the EU, the UK or California.

What you type

Backing a city asks for two optional things: a display name and a shoutout. Both are published on that city's page and in the live activity feed, next to the amount. Leave them blank and the contribution appears as Anonymous Warrior.

Buying a business spot or a float asks for a business name, a tagline or headline, a website URL and a category. All of those are published — that is what you are buying. A spot purchase can also carry a contact email, which is not published: it travels with the order so we can reach you about that listing.

None of it is verified, and none of it is asked for anywhere other than the checkout. There is no sign-up form on this site.

Public by default

A shoutout is a public message on a public web page. It can be read by anyone, quoted, screenshotted, indexed by search engines and included in a share card. Do not put a phone number, an address, an email or anything private in one.

The same is true of a listing: a business spot exists to be seen, and its name, tagline and link are indexed like the rest of the page.

Ask us to take a shoutout or a display name down and we will. The points it bought stay with the city — they were counted when they were paid and other cities' standings have been built on top of them since.

Payments

Payments are processed by Razorpay, charged in INR. Card numbers, UPI handles, bank details and any name, email or phone number you give the payment window go to Razorpay, are handled under Razorpay's privacy policy, and never reach this site.

What comes back to us is the order id, the payment id, the amount, the currency, the status, and the order details we sent with the request in the first place — which city, which product, the display name and message you typed, and the business fields for a listing. Those details are stored with Razorpay as order notes so that a purchase can be re-verified if a server restarts mid-checkout.

We keep the payment id with the placement it paid for. That is the audit trail behind a score and the only way a billing question can be answered later.

Your browser

One key, citywar:my-city, is written to your browser's local storage when you pick a city to follow. It holds the city, the rank and score it had the last time you were shown it, and when that was — so that a return visit can tell you what moved.

It never leaves your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your site data removes it, and refusing storage entirely (private browsing, for example) costs nothing except that the site stops remembering your city.

Cookies, analytics and trackers

This site sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics product, and carries no advertising or social tracking pixel. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Nothing measured here is tied to a name, an email address or a payment. There is no account system to attach it to.

One third party is loaded, and only where you pay: Razorpay's checkout script, which sets its own storage under its own policy. The two typefaces are downloaded when the site is built and served from this domain, so your browser never asks Google for them. Whoever hosts the site keeps ordinary web-server request logs — IP address, user agent, the URL requested — as every web server does. We do not combine those with anything else or use them to build a profile.

Float ads count impressions and clicks per ad. That counter is a number on the ad, not a record about you: no identifier, no profile, nothing tied to a person.

How long it is kept

A shoutout, a listing and the score they bought are part of the public record of the board and are kept for as long as that record stands, unless you ask for the text to come down.

Payment references are kept for as long as they are needed to answer a billing question or meet an accounting or tax obligation. Razorpay keeps its own records under its own policy and retention rules.

Children

This is not a service for children. Nothing here is intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly keep information from them. Tell us if a child has bought something or published a shoutout and it will be removed.

Asking us something

To have a shoutout, display name or listing removed, to ask what is held against a payment id, or to raise anything else about this policy:

morningstar200069@gmail.com. Because there is no account, quote the Razorpay payment id from your receipt — it is the only thing that links a request to a purchase.

Also worth reading: the terms and the refund policy.
