Terms of service

CityWar.lol sells three things, all of them paid placements on a public website:

A contribution adds its dollar value to a city's score on the leaderboard and publishes an optional display name and shoutout beside it. It is an entertainment and promotion product. It is not a donation, not a charitable gift, not an investment, not a subscription, and no part of it is paid to any city, government, authority or resident.

A business spot is one of 5 ranked listings on a single city page, showing a business name, one line of copy and a link. Spots rank by total spend, ties broken by who bid first. A first bid starts at $25; a top-up starts at $5; taking a held spot costs $1 more than its current holder.

A float ad is a dismissible card that hovers over a page for the duration named in the package, on one city or site-wide, rotating against other live floats weighted by spend.

Spot bids and city float purchases also credit the city's score. Payments are capped at $5,000 each.

You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, and using a payment method you are entitled to use. If you are buying for a business you must be authorised to commit that business.

There is no account. Nothing is stored that identifies you beyond what you type into the checkout, so purchases cannot be recovered by logging in — keep the receipt Razorpay sends you.

Scores and prices are denominated in US dollars. The charge itself is taken in INR through Razorpay, converted at a market reference rate refreshed through the day, and the exact INR amount is shown before you confirm. The rate is fixed at the moment your order is created, so it cannot move between confirming and paying.

If your card is issued outside INR, your own bank applies its own conversion and fees on top. That figure is set by your bank, not by this site, and may differ from the amount shown here.

Every price is calculated on the server. A browser can choose what to buy but never what it costs, and a purchase is credited only after Razorpay's payment signature has been verified. A payment that fails verification credits nothing.

Prices, minimum bids and package durations can change. A change never applies retroactively to a placement already bought.

No rank is guaranteed. The leaderboard is competitive by design: anyone can back a rival city or outbid a spot at any time, and doing so is the product working, not a fault in it.

No traffic, impressions, clicks, enquiries or business outcome is guaranteed, and none is sold. A float's duration is guaranteed; the attention it receives is not.

The site is provided as it is. We aim to keep it up and correct, and we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or that a season will run exactly to schedule.

A display name, a shoutout, a business name, a tagline and a website URL are published on a public page as you typed them. By submitting them you confirm you have the right to use them and you grant CityWar.lol permission to display, cache and share them — including in share cards and social previews — for as long as the placement is published.

Not accepted, and removed when found:

• anything unlawful, or that infringes someone else's rights;
• impersonation of a person, business, city or public body, or a claim of an endorsement that does not exist;
• a link that misrepresents where it goes — including link shorteners, IP addresses and non-http(s) URLs, all of which are rejected at checkout;
• malware, phishing, or anything that harms a visitor;
• harassment of a person or a place, hate speech, or content that is obscene or aimed at children;
• content prohibited by Razorpay's own acceptable-use rules.

A placement removed for breaking these rules is not refunded, and the score it credited stays with the city — it cannot be unwound without rewriting other people's standings. We may also remove or edit anything that is broken, misleading or unsafe, and we may decline a purchase.

Contributions, spot bids and float purchases are not refundable once credited. The narrow exceptions — duplicate charges, money taken that never credited, an unauthorised charge — and how to raise one are in the refund policy, which forms part of these terms.

City names, populations, regions and coordinates come from GeoNames and are used under CC BY 4.0. Business names, logos and taglines in paid listings belong to those businesses; their presence on a city page means they bought a placement and nothing more. A link from a listing is not an endorsement, and this site is not responsible for what is on the other end of it.

The rest of the site — its design, its copy and its code — belongs to CityWar.lol.

To the extent the law allows, CityWar.lol is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost business or lost goodwill arising from use of this site, and any liability that does arise is limited to the amount you paid for the placement it concerns.

Nothing here removes a right you have that cannot be removed by agreement — consumer-law rights in particular. Which of those apply to you depends on the jurisdiction clause in §10.

These terms can change. The date at the top of this page is the last substantive change, and a change applies from the moment it is published — it does not alter a placement already bought.

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them or from your use of CityWar.lol.

Nothing in this clause removes a protection your local consumer law gives you and does not allow to be contracted away.
